Terraye Davenport

Terraye “Blu Raye” Davenport was introduced to the poetry of Langston Hughes at just nine years old. By ten, he was writing poetry and songs of his own.

He had a special gift for reading and interpreting scripture from a very young age, sharpened by his close relationship with his grandmother, Margaret Latimer. She taught him about the power of fasting. She passed on to him the effectiveness and gift of intercessory prayer. She taught him what it means to be a friend, and how to keep a secret.

Then at twelve, he was called to speak the word under the leadership and tutelage of the late Supt. Johnny M. Lingo Sr. These two people shaped his moral compass and his spiritual development in ways that have lasted a lifetime.

His creative journey led him into celebrity photography, where he spent years capturing stories one frame at a time. He has worked across photography, fashion, music, and faith.

Long before he told stories through a lens, he was learning to tell them with a pen.

Even in their last conversation, his grandmother told him he would be the one to give the word in her place when she was gone. It has come full circle, for such a time as this.

CLEAN HANDS is his first novel.
